
Hall of Famer Eddie Pope Will Be Guest Speaker for Creighton Soccer

Omaha, Neb. - Class of 2011 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee and director of player relations at the MLS Players' Union, Eddie Pope, will be featured as a guest speaker at the Wines of the World Cup event Saturday, Aug. 15 at Morrison Stadium.
In addition, he will be present as the Bluejays practice on Sunday, Aug.16.
Pope played at North Carolina from 1992-1995 under the direction of Elmar Bolowich and started every game of his career as a Tar Heel. Pope was honored as a 1994 NCAA First Team All-American.
"It will be a thrill to have Eddie come to Omaha and be part of our Wines of the World Cup, and have him speak to our current Creighton players," said Bolowich. "Eddie has won everything a domestic professional soccer player can achieve. He has been a tremendous ambassador for U.S. Soccer and contributed greatly to the growth of soccer on all levels in the U.S.”
Pope was named to three World Cup rosters, spent 11 years on the international circuit and completed 12 seasons in the MLS with Real Salt Lake, the MetroStars and DC United.
In 1996, he scored the game-winning goal to help United win the inaugural MLS Cup. Pope was named the Honda Player of the Year as the top player on the National team and was honored as the Bic Tough Defender of the Year in 1997. He was also selected to 11 MLS All-Star teams.
Additionally, Pope won his first Gold Cup championship with the U.S. National team in 2005.
