Volleyball's Winters Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball's Jaali Winters has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks after helping the Bluejays to a pair of victories last weekend.
Winters was previously honored on Sept. 14th by the league office.
Winters opened her BIG EAST career with a pair of double-doubles in 3-1 victories over Seton Hall and Villanova. She led Creighton with 36 kills, 37 points, 4.50 kills per set, 4.69 points per set and a .321 hitting percentage.
Winters had 13 kills and 11 digs on .300 hitting in Friday's 3-1 win over Seton Hall. She had at least three kills and three digs in all three sets that CU won.
On Sunday, Winters had 23 kills and 11 digs while hitting .333 in a victory over Villanova. Winters had 10 kills in the first set and five more in each the third and fourth set wins, as well, including the set point clincher in both.
The 23 kills by Winters is tied for fourth-most by a Creighton freshman in program history, and she became the first player in CU history to reach 200 career kills in 15 matches or less.
Creighton (8-7, 2-0 BIG EAST heads on the road this weekend to meet St. John's (Friday) and Providence (Saturday). The Bluejays earned five votes in this week's AVCA Top 25 poll and are have enough points in those "also receiving votes" to be listed a season-best 35th overall.
