
#8 USC Takes 3-0 Decision Over Bluejay Volleyball

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Creighton Volleyball team was swept by eighth-ranked USC in the first match of the UNI Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Friday.
Scores of the match in favor of USC were 25-17, 25-16, 25-8.
USC (4-0) did a good job against CU's serve in the first set, winning 14-of-17 sideout opportunities en route to a 25-17 win. The teams were close early before USC ended the frame on a 7-2 run to take the early advantage in the match. USC hit .341 in the set and libero Taylor Whittingham had 13 of USC's 26 digs. CU was led by five kills and four digs from Jaali Winters in the first frame.
Creighton (1-3) opened the second set with an early 10-8 lead to force a USC timeout, but the Women of Troy responded. USC scored the next six points to start a 9-1 run and never looked back. USC had just one hitting error in 31 swings while hitting .355.
USC never trailed in the final set, opening up a 10-1 lead, and rolled to a 25-8 victory. USC hit .560 in the final set with just one error in 25 swings.
"USC's obviously a great team," said Creighton head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth. "I thought game one and two were competitive and there were some good points. I was really disappointed with our game three. USC had so few errors, and that's what great teams do. They make you earn points."
Junior Amanda Foje had a career-high two aces for CU, matching her career total entering the day. Winters led CU with nine kills, while Kate Elman had a team-best 12 digs. CU hit .104 with 32 kills, two aces, 42 digs and two blocks on .104 hitting.
USC was paced by 12 kils and two aces from All-American Samantha Bricio, who hit .357. Whittingham tallied 24 digs on the day for the Women of Troy. USC had 44 kills, two aces, 55 digs and seven blocks on .402 hitting.
Creighton has two matches on Saturday to close out the UNI Tournament. CU takes on tournament host UNI on Saturday at Noon in a match that will air on ESPN3.com before closing out the weekend with a 5:30 pm match vs. No. 10 Kentucky.
