Maurice Watson Jr. Named BIG EAST Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Junior guard averaged 20.0 points and 9.0 assists in two wins
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton men's basketball guard Maurice Watson Jr. has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. A junior from Philadelphia, Pa., Watson averaged 20.0 points, 9.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals last week in a pair of double-figure victories.
Watson opened his week with a career-high 27 points against Georgetown, including 20 points after half. He also tied his season-high with seven rebounds, while adding four assists and a steal. Watson made 9-of-13 field goal attempts, including 2-of-3 three-pointers and 7-of-9 shots at the line.

On Saturday, Watson had 13 points and a season-best 14 assists in a win over Seton Hall. Watson's 14 assists were the most by a Bluejay since 1974, tied the most in the BIG EAST this winter, and led to 35 Creighton points. Watson also had two rebounds and a steal during his second double-double as a Bluejay.
Watson continues to lead Creighton in points and assists, leading the BIG EAST in the latter category.
Creighton (12-5, 3-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts No. 8 Providence (14-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) in a 7:45 pm start at CenturyLink Center Omaha.
