Purdue transfer can play setter and outside hitter
OMAHA, Neb. -- Coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth has announced the addition of Lydia Dimke to the Creighton Volleyball program. A 6-foot-2 setter/outside hitter from Ham Lake, Minn., Dimke spent the previous two seasons at Purdue.
Dimke is in class at Creighton today as the spring semester starts on The Hilltop, and she will have two seasons remaining. She can participate in spring workouts with Creighton and is eligible immediately.
Last fall Dimke had 55 kills, 22 assists, 19 digs and 10 service aces for a Purdue team that finished 23-10 and ranked No. 17 nationally. The Boilermakers reached the NCAA Tournament, falling in the second round to eventual finalist Texas in a match that saw Dimke serve a season-high two aces. Dimke's top match came on Sept. 18th, when she had 14 kills in a match against South Dakota and her older sister Sydney. The Psychology major was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree in the fall.
Purdue went 22-10 in 2014, Dimke's freshman campaign. She finished with 155 assists, 130 digs, 24 aces and 22 kills. She had eight kills in 10 swings in a Sept. 19 win over Morehead State. Dimke posted seven contests with 14 assists or more, including her lone double-double (30 assists, 12 digs) in her only start of the year at Iowa on Nov. 8.
Dimke was an Under Armour All-America first team honoree in 2013 following her senior year of high school, when PrepVolleyball.com named her the nation's No. 50 recruit. She was a three-time all-state selection and led the state of Minnesota in aces as a junior.
The arrival of Dimke will help offset the loss of five seniors, including setters Maggie Baumert and Ashley Jansen and outside hitters Lizzy Stivers and Melanie Jereb.
Creighton finished the 2015 season with a 27-9 record, winning BIG EAST regular-season and tournament titles, before reaching the program's first Sweet 16 in history. The Bluejays were voted No. 19 in the year-end American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings.
