Women's Basketball Falls at #24 DePaul, 81-63

Chicago, Ill. - Freshman Audrey Faber finished just missed a double-double with 17 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Creighton women's basketball team fell to #24 DePaul 81-63 on Friday, Jan. 22.
The loss ended Creighton's four-game win streak as the Bluejays dropped to 10-10 on the season and 4-4 in BIG EAST play. DePaul, meanwhile, moved to 15-6 overall and 7-1 in conference action.
After trading buckets through the opening four minutes of play, Creighton seized its first lead of the game with 5:43 showing on the clock as sophomore Sydney Lamberty knocked down the first three-pointer attempted in the game. Another trey from junior Lauren Works pushed Creighton's lead to 12-8 (3:48). DePaul, however responded with a 29-6 run over the next 8:52 to take control of the opening.
The Bluejays tried to ignite a rally with back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore Myah Mellman and junior MC McGrory. DePaul proved equal to the challenge, pushing its lead to 47-25 at the break.
Down 54-29 with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter, Faber scored five straight to pull the Bluejays back. Sophomore Jade Owens added in two free throws to extend the Creighton run to 7-0 (54-36), but that was as the Bluejays got the rest of the way.
Four players finished in double figures for DePaul, led by 16 points from Megan Podkowa and Jessica January.
Creighton returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 24 as the Bluejays battle Marquette at 2:00 pm in Milwaukee, Wis.
