Omaha, Neb. -- Paced by a goal from freshman Kylin Grubb in the third minute, the Creighton women's soccer team defeated Seton Hall 4-0 on Thursday, Oct. 6.
The win boosted the Bluejays to 7-3-2 on the season and 2-2-0 in BIG EAST action, while Seton Hall fell to 4-7-1 overall and 0-4-0 in conference play.
The Bluejays first goal of the match was a brilliant piece of teamwork as senior Ylenia Sachau sent the ball from near midfield deep into the right side for fellow senior Sullivan. The result was a ball sent on frame which was slowed down by a Seton Hall defender, the ball stopped just in front of the goal for Grubb to slam it home for her first collegiate goal.
Sachau and Sullivan teamed up once more in the 32nd minute as Sachau sent another pass better than 30 yards. Seeing the ball travel from right to left, Sullivan headed the ball onto frame for her tenth goal of the season. It was the seventh consecutive game that Sullivan recorded at least one goal, tying the Bluejays' all-time record for most consecutive matches with a goal that was set by Greta Mathews in 1989.
Sullivan wasn't done, as she set up junior Darby Hugunin in the 46th minute, connecting with a crossing pass from the right to set up a goal from six yards outside the net. The Bluejays final goal of the match came in the 88th minute as freshmen Hannah Miller and Kate Johnson gave their impression of Sullivan and Hugunin as Johnson crossed a pass and Miller delivered the goal from 15 yards.
The Creighton defense limited Seton Hall to just three shots in the match, including one in the second half.
Thursday marked Creighton's first shutout victory of the season and the first in the career of freshman goalkeeper, McKenzie Meola. She moved to 5-1-1 on the season in the net.
The Bluejays return to action on Sunday, Oct. 9 as Creighton hosts St. John's at 1:00 pm.
