No. 25 Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to 13 with Sweep of Butler

Bluejays never trail in 3-0 romp
Omaha, Neb. -- The No. 25 Creighton volleyball team extended its season-long win streak to 13 matches with a sweep of Butler on Friday, Nov. 4. Set scores for the match were 25-12, 25-14 and 25-17, as Creighton never trailed.
The win lifted Creighton to 19-6 on the season and 13-0 in BIG EAST play, while Butler dropped to 16-13 overall and 5-8 in conference action.Â
Taking eight of the opening 10 points of the match, the Bluejays ambushed Butler to take an early lead. The rally began as Creighton got kills from Marysa Wilkinson, Lauren Smith and Jaali Winters in succession to open the match. Smith pushed the Bluejay edge to 4-0 with her second kill. Following a Butler kill from Anna Logan, Creighton's Megan Ballenger delivered a cross court kill followed by an ace to make it 6-1. The Bluejays went on to take the set, 25-12, outhitting Butler .447 to .116.
Set number two appeared to be an instant replay as Creighton jumped out to a 7-1 lead. Kenzie Crawford spearheaded the surge by serving CU to a 4-0 advantage, while the Bluejay attackers remained on point. Creighton committed just one hitting error in each of the opening two sets, posting a .433 percentage in the second set. Butler, meanwhile, committed six attack errors to hit .031. The Bluejays led the set by as much as 12 at 21-9, before coasting to the 25-14 win.
Another early burst set Creighton up for the sweep as the Bluejays took five of the first six points in the third set. This time the ringleader was Samantha Bohnet, collecting one ace and putting the Bulldogs on their heels. After Butler cut the lead to 6-3, Creighton put the set away with another 5-1 run, collecting two kills from Taryn Kloth and forcing Butler into three errors (two attacking and one from the service line).
Winters and Kloth led the Bluejays with 11 and 10 kills respectively, while setter Lydia Dimke finished with 36 assists and 12 digs. Butler got a team-high seven kills from Briana Lilly while Logan had six. The Bulldogs entered the match leading the country in kills, but had just 25 in the contest.
