Bluejays clinch second-consecutive win
OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton Women's Tennis picked up its second-consecutive win on Wednesday as the Bluejays rallied from a 2-0 match deficit to earn a 5-2 victory versus crosstown opponent Omaha.
The Bluejays (2-3) rattled off five consecutive singles wins to secure the win, with Darby Rosette, Sam Anderson, Karlin Naslund, Claire Embree, and Ashley Ishimura finding the win column.
"I was very proud of the way our girls fought and competed with class throughout the match," Creighton head coach Tom Lilly said. "We have been working hard and getting stronger mentally and competing better when things aren't going our way."
Today was a battle against a very good UNO team and the credit goes to our players for accepting the challenge and being confident even when we were down after the doubles point," Lilly said. "Hopefully this win will carry over into more great play."
Rosette's straight-set win at the third singles position cut the Bluejays' match deficit to 2-1. Anderson and Naslund followed suit to give Creighton a 3-2 advantage with just two matches remaining in action.
After Omaha's Molly Matricardi pulled the match even with a 6-3, second-set win, Embree responded with a 6-2 victory in the decisive third set at No. 4 Singles to clinch the win for the Bluejays.
Ishimura capped the match off with a 4-6, 7-5, 3-0 (ret.) win at the top spot.
While the win marked Creighton's second-consecutive victory, it also snapped Omaha's three-match win streak.
The Bluejays will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 20 as they host Coe College.
