Final 13-2 Run Pushes WBB Past Butler, 52-42

Indianapolis, Ind. - Powered by a 13-2 run over the final 4:15, the Creighton women's basketball team defeated Butler 52-42 on Friday, Feb. 5.
The win lifted the Bluejays back to .500 at 12-12 on the season and 6-6 in BIG EAST play, while Butler fell to 7-15 overall and 2-9 in conference play.
Lamberty delivered the turning point in the game after Butler's Sydney Buck gave Butler a 40-39 edge with a three-pointer as the shot clock expired. On the next Bluejay possession Lamberty found an opening two feet beyond the top of the key and nailed an answer. Creighton went on to score the next eight points on a trey from junior Lauren Works and a driving layup by sophomore Jade Owens as the Bluejay shot clock ticked to zero, two free throws from freshman Audrey Faber and one by sophomore Bailey Norby to give the Bluejays a 50-40 advantage with 33 seconds left.
Both teams struggled through the opening two periods as Butler and Creighton closed the first half 6-of-29 (20.7%) from the field. Tied 7-7 early in the second period the Bluejays jumped out to a 16-9 edge with a 9-2 run. Norby got things going with a 12-foot jumper from the left side. Junior Lauren Works followed with a driving layup. After a Butler bucket, freshman Ali Greene got two in the paint and Faber capped the run with a trey from the left side to make it 16-9 with 3:10 left in the half. Butler, however, scored the final eight points of the period to take a 17-16 edge at halftime.
The third period saw the Bulldogs push their lead to as much as six at 30-24 with 2:46 left. Creighton rallied behind an interior bucket by Norby, followed by five straight from Faber. The Iowa native got two from the charity stripe, then knocked down a trey to give the Bluejays a 31-30 lead with 27 seconds left. Butler, however, got a three-pointer from Sydney Buck in the final seconds to take a 33-31 lead into the fourth.
Lamberty led the Bluejays with 18 points, while Faber had 12. Butler got 16 from Blaire Langlois in the loss.
Creighton returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 7 as the Bluejays head to Cincinnati to face Xavier at 1:00 pm.
