Bluejays WBB Falls on Buzzer Beater, 57-55

Cincinnati, Ohio - A buzzer beating second chance shot from Jenna Crittendon sent the Creighton women's basketball team to a 57-55 defeat on Sunday, Feb. 7.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 12-13 on the season and 6-7 in BIG EAST play, while Xavier moved to 17-6 overall and 8-4 in conference action.
Down 53-51 with 1:01 remaining sophomore Sydney Lamberty knotted the game up with a six-foot jumper in the paint. Xavier converted two free throws to reclaim the advantage, but MC McGrory knocked down a game-tying bucket with 16 seconds left. On the final possession of regulation, Creighton got the stop by the rebound deflected out to Crittendon and she got the ball into the air as the buzzer sounded.
Freshman Audrey Faber got the Bluejays rolling early with five points in over three possessions to push Creighton out to a 7-4 edge (4:12). Xavier, however, closed the opening period with an 11-0 run to take a 15-7 lead into the second quarter. Down 26-15 with just 1:59 left in the first half, the Bluejays got back in the game with five straight on a trey from junior Lauren Works and a pull-up jumper from sophomore Jade Owens. Creighton went into halftime down 31-24.
The momentum gained in the closing minutes of the first half carried into the third period as the Bluejays claimed the lead in the closing moments of the third with a 10-0 run. Down 36-28 (6:49), Creighton rattled off the next 10 on a free throw from junior Brianna Rollerson followed by three-pointers from Faber, Works and junior MC McGrory to take a 38-36 edge with 3:03 remaining.
The Bluejays continued to click into the fourth as the Creighton took a 38-36 lead into the final period and pushed it to 47-40 with 6:41 remaining. Creighton's final push came on a jumper from Owens and a trey by Works give the Bluejays the seven-point edge to set the stage for Xavier's final charge.
Faber led the Bluejays with 17 points and seven rebounds, while McGrory finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Crittendon and Raeshaun Gaffney led Xavier with 12 points.
The Bluejays return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 14 as Creighton battles Providence at 12:01 (CT) in the Friars' Pink Game on BEDN.
