10th class of the Omaha Sports Hall of Fame has multiple Creighton ties

This year's 2016 Omaha Sports Hall of Fame class includes:
Dana Altman – Former Creighton basketball coach
Ron Kellogg – Omaha Northwest/Kansas basketball player
Jed Ortmeyer – Omaha Lancers/Michigan/NHL Hockey player
Alice Schmidt – Elkhorn/North Carolina/USA Olympic distance runner
Grant Simmons – Omaha Benson/Nebraska basketball player
Kerry Trotter – Omaha Creighton Prep/Marquette basketball player
1996 Creighton Soccer Team -- went 17-5-2 and advanced to program's first College Cup

Altman is a former Creighton University Basketball head coach and current University of Oregon Basketball head coach. He is a seven-time Conference Coach of the Year and owns over 550 career wins. Altman led Creighton from 1994-2010, compiling a 327-176 record and taking the Bluejays to 13 postseasons, including seven NCAA Tournaments.
Herbers was a two-time First Team All-American and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year selection at Creighton, helping CU to consecutive national quarterfinal appearances. He led the nation in assists (17) and points (47), and helped propel Creighton to the No. 1 spot in the nation. Herbers was a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded to the nation's best player, before becoming the No. 6 overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union.
Creighton's 1996 men's soccer team went 17-5-2, finishing as Missouri Valley Conference regular-season champions and advancing to the program's first College Cup. Johnny Torres was named National Player of the Year by Soccer America, while Richard Mulrooney set a then-school record with 16 assists. Ross Paule was named MVC Player of the Year, while Bret Simon was honored as MVC Co-Coach of the Year.
