Columbus, Ohio -- Former Creighton Men's Soccer standout Ethan Finlay made his World Cup Qualifying debut for the United States National Soccer Team on Tuesday, March 29 in a 4-0 win over Guatemala .
Earning his third National Team cap, Finlay gained his 1st cap in World Cup qualification as he came on as a substitute in the 71st of the match. In the 85th minute, Finlay received a through ball from teammate Jozy Altidore and notched what appeared to be a goal giving the US an emphatic 4-0 lead in the match. The assistant referee, however, raised his flag indicating Finlay was offside.
Â
Regardless, the evening was special to Finlay as the match took place at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, the home venue of Finlay's Columbus Crew. The US Team will take a brief hiatus until it resumes qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in September of this year. The team will play in two friendlies in May and will also compete in the historic Copa America this summer.
Â
Finlay returns to Columbus Crew after a two-week stint with the US National Team. The Crew travels to Dallas this Saturday to take on FC Dallas at Toyota Park. Ironically, the match will see the Creighton Men's Soccer team in attendance as the team will travels to Dallas to take on the FC Dallas reserves the following morning.
