Creighton Athletics Shines As APR Scores Released By NCAA

OMAHA – The Creighton Athletic Department had seven teams honored by the NCAA with Public Recognition Awards in its most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) reports with a perfect score.
Creighton's men's cross country, men's golf, men's tennis, women's softball, women's basketball, women's cross country and women's tennis teams each earned a perfect score in the rankings, which were unveiled for the first time today. Last Wednesday the NCAA had disclosed that the schools with scores in the top 10 percent of each respective sport.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation, and retention each semester or quarter and provides a picture of the academic performance for scholarship student-athletes competing on every Division I athletic team. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, and the 2014-15 academic years.
The awards are given annually to the Division I sports teams demonstrating a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving top APRs within their respective sports.Â
Highlights from the most recent report include:
•       Overall, Creighton recorded a multi-year year score for all sports of 992.92, which was the fourth-best in the BIG EAST Conference.
•       Creighton's men's cross country, men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's tennis, softball and women's cross country teams each had perfect 1,000 scores, while men's basketball also earned recognition with a 986 mark that was third-best in the BIG EAST.
•       Twelve of Creighton's 14 teams had a multi-year APR at or above the national average, including all six men's programs.
•       According to scores that are attributed to each head coach, Tom Lilly has had a perfect APR each of the past seven years in women's tennis, and in each of the past six years in men's tennis, while women's basketball head coach Jim Flanery also has maintained a perfect APR for six consecutive years.
