Former Bluejay Ty Blach Called Up to San Francisco Giants Roster

Omaha, Neb. -- Former standout Creighton pitcher Ty Blach (2010-12) received some tremendous news on Thursday as the southpaw got his first call up by the San Francisco Giants. Blach joined the roster will begin his Major League Baseball career in Wrigley Field as San Francisco open a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs.
One of the most dominating left-handed pitchers in Creighton baseball history, Blach was selected in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants with the No. 178 overall pick.
Blach began his career with the Giants in 2013 with the San Jose Giants (A) in the California League. Blach appeared in 22 games that season, starting 20 contests. He final line was as impressive as could be, 12-4 with a 2.90 ERA as well as 117 strikeouts and just 18 walks in 130.1 innings. Ty was named the California League Pitcher of the Year as well as to the All-Star Team.
The ascent to the Majors continued in 2014 as Blach pitched with Richmond (AA). He has spent the past two seasons as a member of the Sacramento River Cats (AAA), compiling a 25-19 record in AAA over 328 innings.
This season Blach earned a spot on the All-PCL team with a 14-7 record over 162.2 innings (3.43 ERA).
A native of Centennial, Colo., Blach closed his three years at Creighton with a career 2.76 ERA, putting the southpaw in second place on the Creighton all-time career charts at the time.Â
"I am very blessed to have the opportunity to live out my lifelong dream of being a Major League Baseball player," said Blach. "I'm grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey. I can't wait to get out there and help the Giants make another playoff push!"
During his final season with the Bluejays, Ty led the nation with 21 starts in 2012. Blach saved his best performance for the stretch run, including a one-hit shutout in the MVC Tournament opener against Indiana State and his 8.0 innings of work at UCLA in the opening game of the 2012 Los Angeles Regional.
Blach was named an MVC First Team Scholar-Athlete in 2011, as well as to the MVC second team. He was tabbed a CoSIDA Academic All-America, while he was named a Third Team Freshman All-American in 2010.
Ty's younger sister, Hayley, has followed in her brother's footsteps becoming a part of the Creighton family as a member of the Bluejay women's soccer team in 2016.
