Series History
Marquette leads series, 4-2-1
The Golden Eagles have owned the series since Creighton joined the BIG EAST three years ago, taking all three meetings as conference foes. Marquette has won the last four meetings with Creighton.
The last two battles between the Bluejays and Golden Eagles have come in Wisconsin, but this matchup brings the series back to Omaha. Creighton is 1-2-1 against Marquette in Omaha, playing the Golden Eagles to a tough 2-1 loss on Sept. 26, 2013.
Scouting Marquette (4-4-2)
Don't let the record fool you, the Golden Eagles were picked to finish third in the BIG EAST for a good reason. Marquette has faced three ranked squads (#22 Santa Clara, #2 Stanford and #24 Northwestern) over its last six matches. While the Golden Eagles did not win any of those contests, Marquette earned a draw at Santa Clara on Sept. 1.
The Golden Eagles have a balanced scoring attack, with goals from eight different players. Molly Pfeiffer leads Marquette with three goals and eight points on the season. Defensively Marquette has allowed 15 goals, including four to Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge last weekend. The Golden Eagles have sent Omaha native freshman Maddy Henry into goal for every minute this season (940:00), she has a 1.44 GAA and has made 39 saves.
Marquette has been a much better team at home (3-0-1) than on the road (1-4-1).
Let's Get Ready to RUMBLE: BIG EAST Play Begins
In each of their four seasons as members of the BIG EAST Conference, the Bluejays have kicked off conference action against Marquette. This season Creighton will be looking for a new outcome.
Home Grown Talent Who Flew the Coup
Two key members of the Marquette Golden Eagles hail from the Bluejays backyard, senior Liz Bartels (Skutt Catholic HS) and freshman Maddy Henry (Millard North HS). Bartels came back to bite the Bluejays in 2013, scoring the game-winning goal at Morrison Stadium on Sept. 26. She continued to hurt Creighton with a goal and two assists in 2014, while last season she was sidelined with an injury last season. As a freshman this is Henry's first contest against Creighton, but she led Millard North to the Nebraska State Championship Tournament in Morrison Stadium over the past four seasons.
Sullivan's Five Point Effort, the First By A Bluejays Since 2014
Sullivan closed the match against Yale with five points on two goals and one assist. It marked the first time since 2014 that one Bluejay accounted for at least five points. The last player to notch five points in a contest was Alyssa Jara (2G/1A) against New Mexico State on Sept. 5, 2014.
Sullivan Stymied by Power Outage
Senior Lauren Sullivan got the Bluejays out to a 1-0 lead with a goal in the fifth minute, but the lights went out in Kingston in the 20th minute of play. Shortly thereafter a transformer exploded, ending the match for the night.
Initially rescheduled for Friday, the two teams were unable to agree on a start time forcing the cancellation.
Remembering the Bend
Although Marquette got the best of the Bluejays on their last trip to Omaha in 2013, Creighton's Emily Roll provided a memorable moment.
In the 44th minute of play, Roll turned a Bluejay corner into a 'must see' moment by bending a her entry into the upper corner to send the match to halftime tied, 1-1.
