Bird Seeds
Creighton holds a 5-3 edge over Villanova, including four straight wins over the Wildcats. The Bluejays are 1-2 in Villanova, claiming a 65-62 win last season there on Jan. 5.
Creighton won the first meeting between the two teams on Dec. 28, 2013. The Bluejays, however, dropped the next three prior to the 2015-16 season. Creighton won all three meetings last season as well as the first matchup in 2016-17.

Charmed BIG EAST Season?
Three times in BIG EAST play the Bluejays have trailed by three or more in the final minute of regulation, yet cameback to earn the win.
The first time was against Georgetown (Jan. 8). In that game the Bluejays trailed 59-56 with 21 seconds left. Senior Lauren Works knocked down a trey with nine seconds left to force overtime.
It happened again at Seton Hall (Jan. 22), yet this time the Bluejays were down 56-52 with 32 seconds left. Sophomore Audrey Faber got Creighton within a bucket with a layup, then after the Pirates went 1-of-2 from the line, Works answered the call again with a game-tying trey to force overtime.
The Bluejays went on to win both encounters, 70-68 over Georgetown and 70-60 against the Pirates.
The comeback against Marquette on Jan. 29th, however, may be the most notable. Trailing 77-72 with 56 seconds left, junior Sydney Lamberty scored the final eight Bluejay points to lift the Creighton to a miraculous win.
Bluejays Perched on NCAA Branch
With seven games remaining in the regular season, Creighton has worked its way into consideration for an at-large berth at 15-6. Entering the weekend the Bluejays are projected to make the field by ESPN's Charlie Creme as well as RealTimeRPI.com Both Creme and RealTimeRPI list the Bluejays as a No. 9 seed, projected to go to Storrs, Connecticut.
The next two road games (at Villanova and at Georgetown) will go a long way in deciding if the branch the Bluejays sit upon remains strong (NCAA) or another tree (WNIT) is in Creighton's future.
All Hands on Deck Against Marquette
In Creighton's 80-77 win over the Golden Eagles on Jan. 29, five Bluejays finished in double-figures (Faber & Lamberty with 14, Agnew, Janning and Works with 12). It was the second time a quintet of Bluejays reached 10 points or more in one contest, the last coming in Milwaukee against the Golden Eagles on Jan. 2.
First Career Double-Double for Works
After grabbing 10 rebounds for the first time in her career at Seton Hall on Jan. 22, senior Lauren Works wasted no time using her honed glass cleaning skill to post her first career double-double, collecting 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Marquette (Jan. 29).
Stats for the Analytical Types
Two specific numbers have proven to tell the tell for Creighton this season. The Bluejays are 8-0 in games they've scored at least 70 points. Creighton is 9-0 when the squad has committed fewer turnovers than its opponents.

Scouting Villanova (11-10, 6-4 BIG EAST)
- The Wildcats' record can be deceiving as Villanova enters Friday's game with the 29th toughest schedule (according to warrennolan.com). Villanova has faced two top-10 RPI teams in Mississippi State, Duke as well as DePaul (currently #16).
- Following the first meeting with the Bluejays, Villanova rattled off five straight victories (one out of BIG EAST play over Penn).
- The Wildcats' win streak was snapped by travel partner Georgetown, 54-49, on Saturday (Jan. 28).
- Consistently a disciplined team under Perretta, Villanova leads the NCAA in fewest turnovers per game at 9.7.
- The tandem of Adrianna Hahn and Alex Louin are averaging 14.0 ppg and 12.6 ppg respectively. The combined 26.6 ppg is 43.4% of Villanova's average of 61.3 ppg as a team.
Keys to the Game w/Villanova
- Offensive Execution: Games between the Bluejays and Wildcats are consistently lower possession contests. The slower pace forces each squad to improve its scoring efficiency.
- Rollerson in the paint: Brianna has been at her best throughout her senior season. She must provide a scoring threat and impact defender in the paint. Â
- Slow Down Hahn: In the first meeting with Villanova, the Bluejays head Hahn to just six points. While limiting her to that extent will be tremendously difficult to repeat, Creighton cannot afford to let her score at will. She is averaging 14.4 ppg and is shooting 46% from long range (33-of-72). The Bluejays have to make her offensive output difficult and force her to give up the ball.
