1/9/2017 4:42:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Omaha, Neb. -- Following a tough overtime win on Sunday, the Bluejay women's basketball team will look to stay unbeaten at home as Creighton host Villanova on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
Bird Seeds
Creighton holds a 4-3 edge over Villanova, including three wins over the Wildcats last
season. The Bluejays are 2-1 at home against Villanova, claiming a 65-62 win last season in Omaha. Creighton won the first meeting between the two teams on Dec. 28, 2013. The Bluejays, however, dropped the next three prior to the 2015-16 season.
About Villanova
Entering Tuesday's contest Jim Flanery is 99-28 in home conference contests. The battle with Villanova will present the first chance to top the century mark.
Works Getting Fitted for Superhero Cape
Senior Lauren Works not only forced overtime with trey in the closing seconds, she sealed the win with another trifecta in the final minute of the extra frame in Creighton women's basketball's 70-68 victory over Georgetown on Sunday, Jan. 8.
Junior Sydney Lamberty put the final Creighton play in motion, driving the lane from the right side. As Lamberty was being forced out of bounds near the bucket, she found Works open briefly in the left corner. The Lincoln native wasted no time as she left her shot fly to tie the game with 7.8 seconds left.
The additional five minutes saw the Bluejays score the first four points and push out to a 65-60 lead with 2:57 left. Georgetown responded with eight of the next 10 points to hold a 68-67 advantage with 19 seconds remaining. The Bluejays returned to the tandem that forced overtime as Lamberty drove the lane, then found Works open on the left wing for the game winner.
Overtime Thriller Against Georgetown Presents a Little Déjà Vu
Works' trey to force overtime likely seemed too familiar to Georgetown. The first time the two squads met in Washington D.C., on Jan. 1, 2014, down three in the closing moments the Bluejays got a three-pointer from Sarah Nelson (2010-14) to force overtime.
Creighton is 4-1 in its last five overtime contests and 33-22 all-time. Under Flanery the Bluejays are 19-11 in overtime

- While the third quarter has been a boon for the Bluejays this season, outscoring opponents 89-56 in BIG EAST play, the first quarter has not been kind. Creighton has been outscored 88-72 in the first 10 minutes of BIG EAST contests this season.

About Villanova
- Located in Villanova, Pa. (near Philadelphia).
- Wildcats head coach Harry Perretta is in his 39th season at Villanova.
- He has a career mark of 709-447, all at the helm of the Wildcats.
- The Wildcats' record can be deceiving as Villanova enters Tuesday's game with the 13th toughest schedule (according to warrennolan.com). Villanova has three top-15 RPI teams in Mississippi State, Duke and DePaul.
- Villanova opened the season 4-8, but has won its last two over Georgetown and Providence.
- The tandem of Adrianna Hahn and Alex Louin have driven the offense for the Wildcats, scoring 27.7 ppg combined this season. The duo account for just under 45% (44.7%) of Villanova's offense.
- Consistently a disciplined team under Perretta, Villanova is second in the NCAA in fewest turnovers with 147 on the season (10.5 per game).
- Offensive Execution: Games between the Bluejays and Wildcats are consistently lower possession contests. The slower pace forces each squad to improve its scoring efficiency.
- Rollerson in the paint: Brianna has been at her best throughout her senior season. She must provide a scoring threat and impact defender in the paint. Â
- Slow Down Hahn: Adrianna Hahn has been on a tear in BIG EAST play. She is averaging 20.8 ppg and is shooting 45% from long range (17-of-37). The Bluejays have to make her offensive output difficult and force her to give up the ball.
