Women's Soccer Downed by DePaul, 2-0

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to DePaul on Sunday, Oct. 1 in the Bluejays' BIG EAST home opener.
The loss dropped Creighton to 2-9-1 on the season and 0-3-0 in BIG EAST play, while DePaul moved to 5-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference action.
The course of the match turned for the Bluejays in the second minute as Creighton's first scoring chance put senior Darby Hugunin in the box as she turned for a shot from 12-yards away. Lauren Frasca, however, stopped Hugunin's strike, for her only save of the match.
It was Creighton's lone shot until late in the second half, while DePaul converted a scoring chance in the 13th minute. The Blue Demons got on the scoreboard as Morgan turned sent a cross into the box for Franny Cerny to knock home from six yards.
DePaul added its second goal in the 84th minute, this time it was Madeline Frick sending in the crossing pass. Cerny's first attempt was blocked for a defensive save by Creighton sophomore Jaylin Bosak, but Cerny got a second crack at the net for an unassisted goal.
DePaul closed the match with a 17-3 edge on shots as well as an 8-1 advantage on corners.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 5th as Creighton battles Georgetown in Washington, D.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
