Despite 15 Saves from Meola, Women's Soccer Falls at Marquette 3-0

Milwaukee, Wis. -- Despite a career-high 15 saves from sophomore goalkeeper McKenzie Meola, the Creighton women's soccer team was eliminated from BIG EAST Tournament contention with a 3-0 loss to Marquette on Sunday, Oct. 22.
The loss moved Creighton to 3-11-3 on the season and 1-5-2 in BIG EAST play, while Marquette clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament moving to 11-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in conference action.
Marquette got on the board early in the contest as Madison Dunker sent a free kick from the midfield toward the box, then Carrie Madden headed it home for her fifth goal of the season in the fourth minute.
Meola stepped up the rest of the way, denying a penalty kick in the 36th minute to keep the Bluejays in striking distance at 1-0 at the break.
Marquette, however, continued to fire away at the Bluejay defense, tacking on goals in the 63rd and 85th minutes. Madden collected her second goal in the 63rd, while Abby Hess knocked home the goal in the 85th.
Creighton was outshot 32-16 in the contest, while Marquette held a 9-2 edge in corners drawn.
Creighton will conclude the 2017 season on Thursday, Oct. 26 as the Bluejays host Providence at 7:00 pm.
