Women's Hoops Looks to Claim BIG EAST Title at Butler on Sunday

Indianapolis, Ind. -- Just one win from at least a share of the BIG EAST regular season championship, the Creighton women's basketball team must first get past Butler on Sunday, Feb. 26.

- Creighton enters the final game of the regular season with a chance to claim at least a share of its first championship since joining the BIG EAST.
- The Bluejays are in the midst of a seven-game win streak, Creighton's longest since the 2012-13 season. That season the Bluejays won their final seven of the regular season as well as the first game in the MVC Tournament (eight consecutive).
- At 21 victories, the Bluejays are four wins from posting the most wins under head coach Jim Flanery. Creighton finished 24-9 during each of Flanery's first two seasons. The last Bluejay squad with 22 wins came during 2008-09.
- Butler has dropped 12 straight, with their last win coming on Jan. 8 against Xavier.
- Both Creighton and Butler still have something to play for on Sunday as the Bluejays can win the BIG EAST outright with a win and a DePaul loss. Currently the No. 10 seed, Butler can move to the ninth slot with a win and a Xavier loss.
- Sunday will be the Bluejays third Pink game in support of cancer awareness. Creighton host Providence (Feb. 11) and played in Xavier's Pink contest on Friday night.

Scouting Butler (5-23, 2-15 BIG EAST)
- Post player Tori Schickel leads the Bulldogs with 14.4 ppg on the season and 14.9 ppg in BIG EAST play. She also is a force on the glass, averaging 13.1 rpg in conference action, including 19 against Butler.
- Butler plays a limited rotation, using just eight players against Providence on Friday.
- One challenge for the Bulldogs this season has been ball security. Butler has
- committed 506 turnovers this season, just over 18 per game. Â
Keys to the Game w/Butler
- Win the battle in the paint: Schickel will battle with Rollerson down low. If the Bluejays keep this area close, Creighton will neutralize the Bulldogs best scoring option.
- Outside Shooting: Butler shoots just 28.3% from long range in BIG EAST play,
- including 4-of-19 (21.1%) versus Providence on Friday.
- Taking advantage of turnovers: The Bulldogs propensity to give away the ball is an area Creighton must take advantage of.
