Omaha, Neb. -- Behind a dominant pitching performance from senior Jeff Albrecht, the Creighton Baseball squad defeated UC Davis 2-1 on Monday, March 27.
The win lifted Creighton to 6-12 on the season, while UC Davis fell to 6-11.
Creighton got out to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning as freshman Clark Brinkman led off the bottom of the first with a single to left. One out later Brinkman stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. With two down in the frame, sophomore Michael Emodi laced an RBI single to left to make it 1-0.
UC Daivs pulled even with a run in the fifth on a leadoff double from Alex Aguiar, a single from Cameron Biggs and an RBI groundout by Ryan Hooper.
The Bluejays wasted no time in responding, plating another unearned run in the bottom half. Once more Brinkman got things going, reaching on an error with one down. Freshman Isaac Collins followed with a single to right, then sophomore Thomas Luevano lifted a sacrifice fly to center for the game-winning RBI.
Albrecht and junior reliever Ethan DeCaster took over as Albrecht limited UC Davis to one run on seven hits over seven innings for the win (3-2), while DeCaster allowed just one hit in a two inning save. It was DeCaster's first save of the season. Offensively Emodi led Creighton with two hits and the first RBI.
The Bluejays and Aggies will play the rubber game of their three-game series on Tuesday beginning at 2:30 pm.
