Women's Soccer Battles Wisconsin and Oklahoma State in Road Matches This Week

Omaha, Neb. -- Coming off an opening night loss at Iowa State, the Creighton women's soccer travels to Wisconsin and Oklahoma State this week looking for improved play and two results.

Creighton trails Wisconsin, 1-5-0
The Bluejays and Badgers have met six times previously, with Wisconsin claiming five of those contests. The last meeting, however came in 2006. Creighton is 0-3-0 all-time at Wisconsin.

Scouting Wisconsin (1-1-0)
The Badgers welcome back 22 letterwinners from last season, including seven starters. Wisconsin was picked to finish sixth in the Big Ten preseason poll.
One of those starters is goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem, who has been in net for 44 matches over the last three seasons. Clem authored a shutout in her first match of the season, a win over Kentucky, but allowed five goals to #2 Stanford.
Offensively the Badgers' top two scorers from 2016 are gone, the lone returner to reach
double-digits in points (12 on five goals and two assists) is junior forward Emily Borgmann. She also has Wisconsin's lone goal of 2017.
Scouting Oklahoma State (2-0-0)
The Cowgirls bring back 18 letterwinners, led by eight starters that are back. Oklahoma State was picked to finish sixth in the Big 12.
Offensively the Cowgirls lost leading scorer Courtney Dike to graduation, but the next five scorers from 2016 are back. The two leading returners from last season, Jaci Jones and Haley Woodard, combined to score 27 points on 11 goals and five assists. Jones already has three assists in the first two matches.
In the net Oklahoma State brings back both senior Michela Ongaro and sophomore Dani Greenlee. Ongaro had four shutouts last season, while Greenlee allowed just one goal in three matches. The pair have split time in each of the Cowgirls' first two matches.
Season Opening Shutouts
Including the 3-0 loss to Iowa State, Creighton has been involved in 19 shutouts during its 29 seasons. Creighton in 9-8-2 (.526) in those contests.
Scoring Will Come Soon
Despite the high number of times, just once previously have the Bluejays been held off the scoreboard for consecutive matches to kick off a season. That came in 2010 as Creighton battled South Dakota State to a 0-0 tie on Aug. 20, then fell to Northern Illinois 1-0 on Aug. 23.
