Cross Country's Emily Martin Honored As BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week

Junior won the Twilight Invitational last Friday
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton's Emily Martin has been named the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week in Cross Country, the league announced on Wednesday.
A junior from St. Charles, Ill., Martin finished the 5K run at the Augustana Twilight in a time of 17:21.68, besting a field of 310 participants. She outpaced runner-up Megan Billington (17:44.48) of South Dakota by nearly 23 seconds en route to the victory. Martin has now led CU in each of the last seven races she's participated in.

Martin's triumph was the first victory by a Bluejay runner since Lauren Ogg won the Briar Cliff Invitational on October 10, 2015. Ogg had also been the only previous Bluejay to be honored with a weekly honor by the BIG EAST, earning a similar honor on Oct. 13, 2015.
Creighton finished second in the team standings at the meet, which was won by South Dakota.
Creighton returns to the course on Sept. 16 at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
