Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's basketball team fell to DePaul 82-54 on Wednesday, Jan. 10th, dropping its third consecutive game of the season.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 9-7 on the season and 3-3 in BIG EAST play, while DePaul advanced to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in conference action.
The game got off to a good start for the Bluejays as Creighton forced DePaul into four straight turnovers. Offensively the Jays got consecutive buckets from senior Bailey Norby, then senior Kylie Brown extended the Creighton edge to 6-0 with a layup (6:17). DePaul, however, answered with back-to-back three-pointers as the Blue Demons scored 18 of the final 20 points in the period to take an 18-8 advantage to the second.Â
Both teams found their shooting stroke in the second, combining for 47 points on 17-33 from the field. The Bluejays notched 22 points on 9-of-17 (53%), but DePaul was 8-of-16, hitting five treys and four free throws to take a 43-30 lead into the break.Â
As good as the Bluejays were in the second, the third quarter was another story. Creighton went just 2-of-15 (13%) from the field as DePaul stretched its lead to 26 at 61-35 heading to the fourth.Â
The Blue Demons went on to take the game, due in large part to excellent shooting from distance. DePaul closed the game 14-of-26 from beyond the arc (54%), despite missing its final three from long range.
Junior Audrey Faber led the Bluejays with a game-high 16 points in the loss, while five Blue Demons finished in double figures. Ashton Millender led DePaul with 13 points, while Kelly Campbell finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Creighton returns to the floor on Saturday, Jan. 13 as the Bluejays battle Providence at 1:00 pm.
