Women's Basketball Battles St. John's on Friday

Omaha, Neb. -- As the second half of the BIG EAST season gets underway on Friday, the Creighton women's basketball team will look for a little retribution for the overtime loss suffered at St. John's on Jan. 5th. The Bluejays and Red Storm will hit the court on Friday for a 7:00 pm tip.

Scouting St. John's (12-8, 5-4 BE)
The Bluejays and Red Storm provided tipping points for one another in their last meeting as the Red Storm won five straight including the overtime victory against Creighton on Jan. 5. The Bluejays, meanwhile, dropped four of five before earning an overtime win versus Xavier on Monday.

This meeting brings the Red Storm to Omaha coming off a 62-57 loss to Seton Hall on Jan. 21. The calling card for St. John's remains defense, but they also bring a well balanced offensive attack. Six players enter the game averaging 9.7 ppg or better, with Maya Singleton leading the way with 11.6 per game.

In the first meeting with the Bluejays, the Red Storm got a superb performance from Tiana England as she posted 17 points and 10 assists.

Keys Against St. John's

Rebound: Creighton was out rebounded 47-30 in the first meeting, allowing 18 offensive bords to the Red Storm.
Consistent play: Over the first 15 games (60 quarters) the Bluejays were held to single digits in a quarter just once. During their last four games (16 quarters) it has happened four times.

Through 19 games this season, the Bluejays are 11-0 when leading after three quarters and 0-8 when trailing. This holds true despite playing four overtime games.

Fantastic Finish Finally Bounces Bluejays' Way at Xaiver
For the third time in the last four years, Xavier did everything in its power to send the Bluejays home unhappy.

During the 2015-16 season on Feb. 5, MC McGrory knotted the game at 55-55 with 16 seconds left, but Xavier's Jenna Crittendon grabbed an offensive rebound and dropped in the game winner as the buzzer sounded.

The previous season Creighton watched as the Musketeers rallied from a 65-61 deficit in the final 68 seconds. The game winner came with just seven seconds left from Maleeka Kynard.

This year with Creighton up 59-55 with 18 seconds left, Xavier connected twice from long range to force overtime. The final trey came from 25-feet away with just one second remaining in regulation from Na'Teshia Owens. This time however, the Bluejays outlasted the Musketeers in overtime for the 71-64 win.
