VOTE FOR TARYN KLOTH
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Creighton Volleyball standout Taryn Kloth is one of 10 NCAA® women's volleyball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court that were selected today as finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate volleyball.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through December 5. Fan votes will then be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award recipient will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship in December.
Kloth is a two-time All-BIG EAST performer and having her best season to date. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native ranks second in the BIG EAST with 325 kill. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2017 BIG EAST Tournament, and ranks seventh in school history with 1,262 career kills. Kloth was named an All-American in 2016, and spent 11 days this May with the U.S. Collegiate National Team in China. Kloth owns five matches this season with 23 or more kills, including a career-best 26 against both Nebraska and Butler earlier this season.
Kloth is also a Dean's List student in the classroom and has earned three BIG EAST All-Academic Team plaudits. She will graduate in December in just seven semesters before starting graduate school at LSU, where she'll also play beach volleyball.
Kloth is Creighton's first Senior CLASS Award finalist since 2016, when Lauren Smith was. Smith ended the season a Senior CLASS All-American. Kloth's current Bluejay teammate, Jaali Winters, did not survive the today's cut down from the initial list of 30 candidates announced on October 1 to the final 10 for the Senior CLASS Award.
Former Creighton men's soccer goalkeeper Brian Holt won the 2011 Senior CLASS Award on the pitch, while ex-Creighton men's basketball standout Doug McDermott won the 2014 Senior CLASS Award on the hardwood.
