Volleyball Sweeps Seton Hall For Fifth Straight Win

Creighton has now swept the Pirates in seven straight meetings
OMAHA, Neb. -- The No. 10 Creighton Volleyball team won its season-high fifth straight match with a 3-0 victory over Seton Hall before 2,195 fans at D.J. Sokol Arena on Friday, Oct. 5.
Scores of Creighton's seventh straight sweep over the Pirates were 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.
Taryn Kloth led Creighton (13-4, 5-0 BIG EAST) with 15 kills and by hitting .462. Jaali Winters had 11 kills and now stands six shy of breaking Leah Ratzlaff's Creighton record of 1,622 in a career.
Seton Hall (5-14, 0-6 BIG EAST) was led by 10 kills by Haylee Gasser, who also hit .400.
Seton Hall took a one-point lead at 2-1, 7-6 and 9-8 in the first set, but would not lead again as Creighton picked up its 30th straight regular-season BIG EAST home win since a 2014 loss to the Pirates.
Creighton trailed 9-8 in the first set before a 4-0 serving run from Samantha Bohnet that featured a pair of aces from the senior. Creighton's lead grew to 16-11 on Brittany Witt's serve, and a kill from Madelyn Cole closed out the set. Creighton hit .314 in the opening fame, led by six kills from Winters.
Creighton took a 7-3 lead early in the second set and would see that margin grow to 18-11 after a block from Megan Ballenger and Cole. SHU drew within 22-20, but kills from Ballenger, Winters and Kloth closed out the 25-21 set two win. Creighton hit .308 in the second set as Kloth pounded seven kills and Cole had 14 assists and six digs.
The Bluejays would once again pounce on the Pirates early in the third set, taking a 7-2 lead after an ace from Naomi Hickman. Seton Hall closed to within one point at 16-15 before Ballenger and Jaela Zimmerman joined forces to block Cherise Hennigan. Ballenger would follow with consecutive kills and CU closed out a 25-21 win on a kill from Kloth. Cole dished 16 assists in the final frame.
Creighton finished with 49 kills, five aces, 49 digs and 12 blocks on .298 hitting, compared to Seton Hall's 36 kills, one ace, 46 digs and two blocks on .174 hitting.
Creighton hosts St. John's (15-6, 4-2 BIG EAST) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
