Rowing Opens 2018-19 Season at Head of the Mississippi Tournament

Minneapolis, Minn. -- The Creighton Rowing squad opened the 2018-19 season by competing in the Head of the Mississippi Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 6 in Minnesota.
The day long even stretched throughout the day with the Bluejays wrapping up their competition by the early afternoon. Two Bluejay boats participated in the women's collegiate 4+ event as the team of Elizabeth Maynard, Dakota Girdley, Mary Stanley, McKinley Wilson and Bernadette Lyons placed fifth with a time of 22:28.
Creighton's 8+ squad (Michaela Noreen , Katie Graham , Mary Stanley, McKinley Wilson, Elizabeth Maynard, Dakota Girdley, Paige Bolton, Marguerite Barran, Bernadette Lyons) placed third in the keynote event in a time of 2:49.9.
The highlight of the meet came in the freshman 4+ as the Bluejays team of Karen Crouch, Ireland Betta, Grace Tierney, Madelyn Hampton, Ally Einbeck won the event with a time of 25:45.
"This was a great first weekend of competition! It was great to see the novice portion of our team learning to love a new sport," said Creighton head coach Dan Chipps. "I'm equally proud of the varsity for taking on the challenge of rowing two races. We are looking forward to getting prepared for the Jayhawk Jamboree in two weeks."
Creighton returns to the water on Sunday, Oct. 21 as the Bluejays compete in the Jayhawk Jamboree in Lawrence, Kansas
