Already All-Americans on the court, Jaali Winters and Taryn Kloth are up for CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades as well.
OMAHA, Neb. -- Already All-Americans for their play on the court, Creighton Volleyball standouts Taryn Kloth and Jaali Winters are up for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration after earning Academic All-District 7 distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Creighton is the only team in the district with multiple first team picks, and Winters joined Stephen F. Austin's Ann Hollas as the only player in the district to earn First Team accolades for a second straight season.
The 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Volleyball Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in December.
Â
The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools, and other affiliations.
District 7 includes nine states (Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming). Ninety-eight women were nominated in District 7 alone, with seven being named First Team selections and an additional nine landing on the Second Team.
Kloth is a senior outside hitter from Sioux Falls, S.D., who owns a 3.86 GPA. The Finance major has been on the Dean's List and BIG EAST All-Academic Team each of the last three seasons for her work in the classroom. On the court, Kloth is a two-time All-BIG EAST and All-Region selection, and earned All-America honors in 2016. She ranks in the top-10 in CU history in career kills and ranks in the top three in the BIG EAST this fall in kills and points per set.
Winters is a senior outside hitter from Ankeny, Iowa with a 3.90 GPA. The Business Intelligence and Analytics major has been on the Dean's List and BIG EAST All-Academic Team each of the last three seasons for her work in the classroom. Winters has been named an All-American each of her first three seasons, and is in line to attain similar recognition this fall. Winters is a three-time All-Region and All-BIG EAST honoree and owns 81 different school records, including marks for kills, points and attacks. Last fall Winters was named a Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Both Kloth and Winters will graduate in 3.5 years next month.
The contributions of Kloth and Winters have helped Creighton win a fifth straight BIG EAST regular-season title. Winners of 16 consecutive matches, the No. 9 Bluejays (24-4, 16-0 BIG EAST) host Providence at 7 p.m. both tonight and tomorrow night.
This is the second straight season, and third all-time, that Creighton has had a pair of First Team Academic All-District selections, as Winters and Lydia Dimke were recognized last fall. Both Abby Baumann and Emily Greisch were honored on the First Team in 2006.
Among the others making the First Team was Northern Colorado's Brittany Lawrence, who began her college career at Creighton before matriculating to UNC as a graduate transfer.
