#9 Volleyball Sweeps Georgetown For 15th Straight Victory

Kloth posts 15 kills and 8 digs on .609 hitting to pace Bluejays
OMAHA, Neb. -- Naomi Hickman had six blocks and Taryn Kloth added 15 kills on .609 hitting to lead No. 9 Creighton Volleyball to a 3-0 sweep of Georgetown on Friday night before 2,225 fans at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha.
The win, Creighton's 15th in a row, clinched a seventh consecutive 23-win season for the Bluejays, and reduced their magic number for a fifth straight BIG EAST regular-season title to one. Creighton is now 23-4 overall and 15-0 in BIG EAST play with three regular-season contests remaining.
Alyssa Sinnette and Symone Speech each had nine kills for the Hoyas.
Jaali Winters had six kills and Kloth added four putaways to pace Creighton to a 25-19 win in the opening set. CU hit .394 in the first set and had three blocks in addition to an 18-13 dig advantage. Only six service miscues by the Bluejays kept the set within reach.
Georgetown (14-13, 7-8 BIG EAST) erased Creighton's 13-9 lead in the second set with an 8-1 run to move ahead 17-14. Trailing 19-17, Creighton's Brittany Witt uncorked a 6-0 serving run as the Bluejays regained command. An ace from Madelyn Cole closed out the frame with CU taking a 25-20 decision to return to the locker room with a 2-0 lead in the match. Kloth had six kills in eight swings during the second set, while Witt contributed five digs and a pair of assists.
Creighton never trailed in the third set, streaking to a 4-1 lead early and quickly stretching the lead to 14-8. Kills from Hickman and Winters stretched the margin to 21-11, and Kloth's 15th kill closed out the night. Creighton hit .367 in the final set.
Kloth's .609 hitting was a season-best, and the senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., also added eight digs. Winters had 11 kills and five digs and Witt dug a match-best 11 balls. Cole dished 32 assists with three blocks and eight digs while setting the Bluejay offense to .350 hitting. Creighton added 46 kills, four aces, 48 digs and nine blocks overall.
Georgetown hit .144 and had 32 kills, three aces, 36 digs and three blocks.
Creighton hosts Villanova (15-12, 8-7 BIG EAST) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
