Cross Country Closes Season at NCAA Regionals in Peoria

Howard and Hotalling pace the Bluejays once again

PEORIA, Ill. – The Creighton men's and women's cross country teams raced on Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill.
The women raced a 6K first, and the Creighton team finished in 31st out of 35 teams with a team score of 908. The Bluejays finished behind Southern Illinois (855) and just ahead of DePaul (923) and Nebraska-Omaha (923). Iowa State won the race with a team score of 78. In second place was Oklahoma State who scored a 140, while Minnesota was third with a score of 185.
The first finisher for the Creighton women's team was freshman Danielle Hotalling who ran a time of 22:18.8 which earned her a 115th place finish. Caroline Pass placed 154th, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:41.3. After Pass was 202nd place Katie Fukushima who had a time of 23:39.6. Erica Cradeur finished next in 222nd place after running a time of 24:35.6. Freshman Marguerite Hendrickson was after Cradeur with a time of 24:49.8 in 224th place. Amy Leasure finished in 225th place, running a time of 24:53.8. The women's race was won by Iowa State's Cailie Logue, who outraced the field of 233 competitors with a time of 20:13.5 to win by 10 seconds.
The men's team finished in 28th out of 31 with a team score of 875 in the 10K that followed the women's race. The team finished in front of 29th place DePaul who scored an 883 and behind 27th place Southeast Missouri State who had a score of 805. Taking home gold was Iowa State with a team score of 38, and in second was host Bradley who had a team score of 102. Tulsa finished in third with a team score of 107.
Junior Chase Howard led the way for the Bluejays, finishing in 134th with a time of 33:26.3. Next up was freshman Aidan King in 168th place who ran a time of 34:33.0. Nick Monkemeyer was next and had a time of 35:17.9 which earned him a 187th place finish. Sophomore Max Wehrle finished after Monkemeyer in 190th place with a time of 35:30.3. Jackson Stamper finished his freshman campaign in 196th place with a time of 35:56.3. Nate Fedel finished in 201st place with a time of 36:15.7. After Fedel in 204th place was Boston Small who had a time of 36:59.3.
Iowa State's Edwin Kurgat took home the men's title by a second with a time of 30:41.6. The men's race featured 208 entrants.
Neither Creighton team ran a senior in the final meet of the fall season.
