Tyler Clement Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton men's basketball guard Tyler Clement has been named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) First Team Academic All-American. A senior from Shawnee, Kan., Clement owns a perfect 4.00 GPA in Creighton's Heider College of Business as a Financial Analysis and Marketing major.

Clement is the first player from the Creighton program to be named an Academic All-American since Anthony Tolliver earned Second Team honors in the 2006-07 season. Clement joins Rick Apke (1977-78) as the only Creighton men's basketball products to earn First Team Academic All-America accolades.

Clement joins Rick Apke (1977 and 1978), Brody Deren (2004), Michael Lindeman (2003 and 2004), Paul Silas (1964) and Anthony Tolliver (2007) as the only Bluejay men's basketball players ever to earn First, Second or Third-Team CoSIDA Academic All-America distinction.

Clement averages 2.9 points, 1.0 assists and 1.0 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game while playing in 20 contests this winter.

Clement is a four-time selection to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and has also been named to the Creighton Dean's List after all nine semesters that he's been enrolled. Clement was also named to the NABC Honors Court each of the past two seasons.

West Virginia standout Jevon Carter was named the Academic All-American of the Year, and joining he and Clement on the First Team were A.J. Jacobson (North Dakota State), Tyler Sibring (Elon) and Joe Sherburne (UMBC).

To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility, with the exception of graduate transfers. The Academic All-District picks then advance to Academic All-America consideration.
