Bluejays claimed five singles wins
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Creighton women's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches with a 5-2 victory over Colorado State on Saturday afternoon at the CSU Tennis Complex.
The Bluejays are now 12-4 this season.
The host Rams claimed 6-1 wins during the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to take the doubles points before Creighton claimed victories at all but one singles position.
The Bluejays picked up a victory by default at the No. 6 position to even the overall match, and Ashley Ishimura won in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-3 in the top singles match to give Creighton a 2-1 edge. Ishimura claimed her ninth consecutive singles victory.
Erin Epperson extended the Bluejays' lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 before Claire Embree sealed the overall match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
During the No. 4 singles match, Darby Rosette won the opening set and led during the second before her opponent retired because of an injury. The victory marked the 100th of Rosette's career.
"Today was a great example of how important determination and heart is during a team match," head coach Tom Lilly said. "CSU dominated in doubles, but I am so proud of how our girls came out and handled the wind, high altitude and having to deal with a confident team that was on fire in doubles.
"To be 12-4 right now is all about these girls playing together and working hard for every point."
The Rams earned their lone singles win of the day with a three-set victory at No. 2.
Creighton continues its road trip with a match against Wyoming on Sunday morning. The start of doubles action is scheduled for 10 a.m. Central.
