Bluejays will open play against Marquette on Friday at 3 p.m.
NEW YORK -Â The Creighton men's tennis team earned the No. 6 seed for the 2018 BIG EAST Men's Championship Presented by Jeep, which will be played Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29 at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, South Carolina, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
The Bluejays wrapped up their regular season with a 10-9 record, including a 1-2 mark against BIG EAST opponents, and earned their highest seed since joining the conference prior to the 2014 spring season.Â
Creighton will open its postseason run with a match against third-seeded Marquette on Friday at 3 p.m. Central.Â
Â
Seeds are determined by the conference's tennis championship and coaches' seeding advisory committees that review each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
Â
For the second straight year DePaul earned the No. 1 seed on the men's side.
Â
Play for the eight-team tournament begins with quarterfinal action on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern with the top seeded Blue Demons facing No. 8 Villanova. Returning to the courts at 4 p.m. Eastern No. 2 St. John's will play No. 7 Xavier, No. 3 Marquette will challenge No. 6 Creighton and the fourth-seeded Bulldogs will take on No. 5 Georgetown.
Â
The men's semifinals are set for 12:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. The semifinal winners will clash on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern for a chance at the 2018 league title and an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships.
