CenturyLink Center Omaha will get a new name starting September 1st
Omaha's Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority (MECA) announced on Wednesday, June 20th that the city's downtown arena and convention center, home of the Creighton Bluejays men's basketball team, will soon be known as CHI Health Center Omaha.
The Rev. Daniel Hendrickson, SJ, Creighton president, was on hand to react to the announcement along with Cliff Robertson, MD, CHI Health chief executive officer.
"Our faith-based partnership with CHI Health has truly been an inspired combination, and the future of health care in this region absolutely is stronger because our joint efforts not only provide excellent care, but a top-notch education for health professions students and research opportunities for faculty," Fr. Hendrickson said.
"Now, through CHI Health Center Omaha, we will have new ways to support greater health and well-being for all those who visit this building. It is truly wonderful that a place that brings so much enjoyment and entertainment to the citizens of our region, and to visitors, will now become a venue that also will advance better health. I cannot think of a more winning proposition."
Robertson said it was an honor to be approached by MECA, "and selected as the naming sponsor of this facility that brings our community joy, hope, promise and excellence.
"The new relationship further aligns CHI Health with our academic partner, Creighton University. CHI Health and Creighton, two Omaha powerhouses – connected through this facility and a commitment to serve. So, for us, this presents an opportunity to care for people in new and different ways."
Robertson said examples of new things visitors might see at the venue include caregivers' blessings, health screenings and other community benefit programs.
"We view this as a long-term investment. We have been serving Nebraska and southwest Iowa for more than 100 years – and we will be here for another 100 – caring, healing and building a healthy community. There will be an entire generation of young people who will grow up associating CHI Health with community, entertainment and physical activity."
The name change takes effect on September 1, 2018.
