Games against Ohio State and Gonzaga highlight the home slate
Schedule as a PDF (as of August 13, 2018)
OMAHA, Neb. – Home games against Ohio State and Gonzaga, road trips to Nebraska and Oklahoma, and three games in the Cayman Islands Classic highlight the Creighton men's basketball non-conference schedule for 2018-19.
All told, Creighton will play at least five, and possibly six, games against NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago, in addition to a pair of NIT teams.
Head coach Greg McDermott's ninth season on The Hilltop begins with a October 27 exhibition game against Winona State. The Warriors are coached by former Bluejay player and assistant coach Todd Eisner.
The regular-season gets underway with three straight home games, including Western Illinois on Nov. 6 in the earliest start date on the calendar in program history. Creighton has won 23 straight home openers and 20-of-21 season-openers at all sites.
The Bluejays host East Tennessee State on Nov. 11 before welcoming Ohio State to newly-renamed CHI Health Center Omaha as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games on Nov. 15. Creighton is 13-1 in its last 14 games against Big Ten schools, including 11 double-figure victories.
The Bluejays hit the road for the first time when it travels to George Town, Cayman Islands, for three games in as many days at the Cayman Islands Classic. CU will meet Boise State on Nov. 19, then face either Georgia State or St. Bonaventure the following day. The trip concludes on Nov. 21 against either Akron, Clemson, Georgia or Illinois State. Clemson ended last season in the Sweet 16 at the Midwest Regional that was contested in Omaha.
The Bluejays host Montana a week later on Nov. 28 before a Gonzaga team with Final Four aspirations heads to Omaha on the first day of December. The Bulldogs have been to 20 straight NCAA Tournaments and own the nation's best record since 2010-11 (244-45).
The Bluejays will meet Nebraska for the 42nd straight season when the clubs square off on Dec. 8 in Lincoln for CU's first true road game of the season. Creighton has won seven straight games by double-digits against its in-state rival, including both previous trips to Pinnacle Bank Arena.
After a few days off for final exams CU will host Green Bay on Dec. 14, then start a home-and-home series with Oklahoma in Norman on Dec. 18.
Creighton's final non-conference games will be on Dec. 20 against Coe before hosting UMKC on Dec. 27.
The BIG EAST Conference schedule will once again be a double round-robin slate, giving Creighton 10 more games against NCAA Tournament competition. That schedule is likely to be released with start times and television coverage for all games in early September.
Creighton returns eight lettermen and two starters from last year's team that finished 21-12 and tied for third in the BIG EAST Conference.
Last year's team also ranked fifth nationally in average home attendance, drawing 17,000 per game. For season ticket information, contact the CU Ticket Office at (402) 280-JAYS or visit http://www.gocreighton.com/tickets.
