Creighton gets tested in event hosted by Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Creighton men's and women's cross country teams competed in their second meet of the year at the National Catholic Invitational on Friday at Burke Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., on a warm sunny afternoon.
The women's team placed in eighth out of 11 teams with a team score of 219, beating BIG EAST foe DePaul by three points and just behind seventh-place Holy Cross, who scored a 185. Winning the meet, was host Notre Dame who scored an 18, followed by Dayton in second with a score of 83. Rounding out the podium in third place was St. Louis who scored a 98. Fellow BIG EAST member Xavier finished in 11th with a team score of 328.
Finishing first for the women's team was freshman Danielle Hotalling in 25th who ran the 5K in 18:36.99. Next up was classmate Marguerite Hendrickson in 51st place and a time of 19:25.69. After Hendrickson was Katie Fukushima in 65th. The sophomore ran a time of 19:43.88. Following Fukushima in 74th place was junior Caroline Pass whose time was 19:56.75. The next Creighton finisher was 86th, sophomore Amy Leasure who ran a time of 20:07.01. Fellow sophomore Haley Fye finished in 101st place with a time of 20:19.07. After Fye was freshman Chloe Cassens with a time of 21:04.86 which earned her a 137th place finish. Rounding out the Creighton runners was Erica Cradeur in 143rd place with a time of 21:20.71.
The men's team finished in 11th place with a total score of 312. The team finished behind 10th place Holy Cross who had score of 261. Notre Dame finished first with a score of 25 points. After Notre Dame was Dayton in second who scored 65 points.
Junior Chase Howard was the first finisher for the Bluejays in 56th place and ran a 5-mile time of 26:55.07. After Howard, in 116th place was junior Nick Monkemeyer whose time was 27:54.99. In 123rd was freshman Bryce Shirley who ran a time of 28:03.92. Junior Nate Fedel ran a time of 28:32.22, which earned him a 133rd place finish. In 139th place was freshman Aidan King who ran a time of 28:34.61. After King, was freshman Boston Small whose time of 28:42.17 placed him in 145th place. Freshman Jackson Stamper finished next up in 161st place after running a time of 29:02.72. Finishing right after Stamper in 162nd was sophomore Max Wehrle in 29:03.25.
The next meet for both the men's and women's teams is the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., on September 29th.
