#9 Men's Soccer Remains Unblemished In BIG EAST Play With 1-0 Shutout of Seton Hall

Sven Koenig scored the game-winning goal during the 84th minute as the Bluejays improved to 3-0-0 in BIG EAST play
OMAHA, Neb. -- Sven Koenig scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season and the No. 9 Creighton men's soccer team improved to 3-0-0 in BIG EAST play with a 1-0 victory against Seton Hall on Saturday night at Morrison Stadium.Â
The Bluejays remained the only team in the BIG EAST without a loss or draw (3-0-0) and improved to 7-1-1 overall with their sixth consecutive win. The Pirates fell to 1-2-0 in league play and 4-3-1 overall.
Koenig converted the game-winning goal on Saturday night during the 84th minute. Younes Boudadi sent a cross from the just outside the right side of the 18-yard box towards Koenig who headed the ball into the back of the net from the middle inside the far post.Â
The senior now owns a BIG EAST-best six goals this season, including three of Creighton's five goals during conference play.
Paul Kruse tallied his BIG EAST-leading sixth shutout of the season, including his third during the Bluejays' three league matches. The freshman did not record a save as Seton Hall did not post a shot on goal. Saturday marked the second time this season he did not need to record a save during a clean sheet effort.Â
The last time Creighton started the conference season with three consecutive shutouts was in 2013.
The Bluejays ended the night with a 22-4 advantage in shots, including an 11-0 edge during the opening 45 minutes of play.
Tor Trosten nearly gave Creighton the lead on its first shot of the night, but the junior's shot hit the left post.Â
During the 17th minute, Ziyad Fares setup Koenig with a back-heel pass, but Koenig failed to beat the Seton Hall goalkeeper as Andres Nota made his second of six saves during the contest.
Koenig also had a shot hit the cross bar during the 70th minute. The Westhofen, Germany native tallied seven total shots, including four on goal on Saturday night.Â
Creighton ended the month of September 6-0-0 and outscored its opponents 11-2.Â
The Bluejays are back in action on Tuesday night at home against No. 4 Denver. Kickoff at Morrison Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
