Cross Country Takes On Crowded Field at Roy Griak Invitational

Howard and Hotalling lead the Bluejays once again
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Creighton women's cross country team finished 12th and men's squad took 13th at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday.
The women's team finished the 6,000-meter race in 12th with a score of 367, finishing behind 11th-place North Dakota who scored a 290. The Bluejays finished in front of Western Illinois who scored a 379. Host Minnesota finished in first with a score of 52. In second, in their first year of being an NCAA Division I school was California Baptist with a score of 82 to edge out third-place South Dakota's 106.
Leading the team was freshman Danielle Hotalling in 39th place who ran a time of 22:27.0. After Hotalling was fellow freshman Marguerite Hendrickson in 107th with a time of 24:02.2. Junior Caroline Pass finished next for the Bluejays in 109th with a time of 24:04.4. Following Pass was sophomore Katie Fukushima in 121st place with a time of 24:26.8. In 128th was sophomore Amy Leasure who ran a 24:48.5. Erica Cradeur finished next 24:53.8 which earned her a 132nd place finish. Erin Smith finished right after Cradeur 24:56.2 in 133rd place. In 137th was sophomore Haley Fye at 25:13.2. In 146th was Chloe Cassens with a time of 25:38.0.
Minnesota's Bethany Hasz won the 151-woman race with a time of 20:47.9 on the Les Bolstad Golf Course, beating her twin sister and teammate Megan Hasz by just over six seconds. The race featured 14 teams.
The Bluejay men team finished in 13th with a total score of 427, falling just behind 12th place South Dakota who had a score of 338. Finishing first in the 8,000-meter race was Duke who scored a 74 followed by Minnesota in 3rd with a score of 77. Also finishing on the podium was Harvard, who scored an 89.
The first Bluejay finisher on the men's side was junior Chase Howard in 85th place. Howard ran a time of 26:32.1. After Howard was sophomore Max Wehrle in 112th, which was earned by his time of 26:58.9. In 128th place was junior Nick Monkemeyer who ran a time of 27:41.9. After Monkemeyer was freshman Aidan King in 130th place which was earned by his time of 27:43.4. Next up was Boston Small in 136th place. Small ran the 8K in 28:15.9. In 139th was Nate Fedel who ran a time of 28:27.1. Right behind Fedel was freshman Jackson Stamper in 140th place and a time of 28:30.8. In 145th place was freshman Bryce Shirley, who clocked a time of 28:46.4.
The men's race was won by Kieran Tuntiva of Harvard in a time of 24:33.4, which gave him the title by 1.4 seconds over Montana State's Ty Mogan. The men's race featured 15 teams and 152 runners.
The next meet for both the men's and women's teams is the Pink Classic on October 12th hosted by Bradley in Peoria, Ill.
