OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball team moved up one spot and is ranked 14th in the second poll of the regular-season that was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.
The Bluejays ascended in the rankings after a 3-0 weekend that featured sweeps of Arkansas State, North Carolina State and SMU to win the SMU DoubleTree Classic in Dallas. Megan Ballenger was named MVP of the event, with Madelyn Cole and Brittany Witt also taking home All-Tournament Team accolades.
Creighton (4-2) is 62-19 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll. The Bluejays have now been ranked in 39 all-time polls, and are one of 14 clubs to be ranked in each of the last 25 editions. The Bluejays have been in every poll since Oct. 31, 2016.
Minnesota moved into the top spot in the national rankings with 35 first-place votes. Wisconsin is second with six votes atop the poll, and BYU, Stanford and Penn State round out the top five. Each of the top five teams, as well as No. 7 Nebraska and No. 10 USC earned first place votes.
Creighton also climbed one spot to 14th in the VolleyMob.com poll.
The Bluejays host three home matches this week. Creighton meets No. 7 Nebraska (4-1) on Thursday at CHI Health Center Omaha. It'll be the first time the programs have faced each as ranked teams, and just the sixth match-up between the schools in any sport when both are ranked at gametime.
Among the teams moving into the top 25 was Marquette, who is No. 25. The ranking of the Golden Eagles and Creighton marks the first time that multiple BIG EAST teams have been ranked in the same top-25 poll since November 26, 2007 (St. John's 18th; Louisville 24th).
Creighton then opens Bluejay Invitational action on Friday against Iowa State at 6 p.m., at D.J. Sokol Arena before concluding play in the Bluejay Invitational on Sunday against Wichita State (4-2) at 2 p.m. Both the Cyclones and the Shockers are receiving votes in this week's Top 25 poll.
