Women's Basketball Falls to Butler, 75-43

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's basketball team fell to Butler, 75-43, on Sunday, Jan. 20. The loss moved the Bluejays to 10-9 on the season and 4-4 in BIG EAST play, while Butler moved to 16-2 overall and 6-1 in conference action.
Butler jumped out to an early 7-2 edge as junior Katherine Strong scored the Bulldogs first seven. Strong went on to score 11 in the period as the Bulldogs took a 20-7 lead into the second quarter.
The Bulldogs continued to push things out early in the second, extending their edge to 19 at 29-10 (6:26). Down 31-12 moments later (5:27), the Bluejays grabbed a little momentum with a 9-2 run. Sophomore Temi Carda started the surge with four straight points, hitting one of two from the line then grabbing a steal for a traditional three-point play on a layup and the bonus free throw. Following a Butler bucket, senior Jade Owens connected from beyond the arc. Fellow senior Brooke Kissinger capped the run with a floating jumped from the right side to make it 33-21 (1:36). Butler stopped Creighton's comeback with four straight and the two teams went to the locker rooms with the Bulldogs holding a 37-23 lead.
Early in the second half the Bluejays closed with 12 once more as senior Audrey Faber got an interior bucket, however Butler rattled off the next seven to take a 44-25 advantage. Butler led by as much 25 in the frame, taking a 60-35 lead into the final ten minutes.
The fourth period saw both teams empty their benches, with Creighton sophomore Tatum Rembao providing the Bluejay highlight with five points in the final frame.
Faber led the Bluejays with 12 points in the contest, while Butler had four players in double-figures led by 23 points from Strong. Butler's Tori Schickel closed the game with her ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan. 26 as the Bluejays host Providence at 1:00 pm in D.J. Sokol Arena.
