Creighton Volleyball phenom extends record streak
Â
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball freshman Keeley Davis has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the seventh straight time.
Davis averaged 4.33 points, 3.83 kills, 1.33 digs, 0.50 blocks and 0.17 assists per set while hitting .353 in 3-0 victories vs. Butler and Xavier last week. Her kills, digs, and blocks per set, as well as hitting percentage, all were her second-best weekly performances of the season.
Davis had nine kills, six digs and two blocks on .292 hitting in Friday's 3-0 win over third-place Butler.
She then added a match-leading 14 kills in a sweep over Xavier, also contributing two digs, a solo block and an ace. Davis also surpassed 200 career kills during the contest, reaching it in 18 matches to tie for the third-fastest Bluejay to that milestone. Her 14 kills tied for her second-most of any match this season.
The victories helped the Bluejays extend their regular-season BIG EAST win streak to 27, and its home win streak in league play to 41.
Davis' teammate, senior Megan Ballenger, also earned a spot on the weekly BIG EAST Honor Roll after averaging 3.00 kills, 0.67 blocks, 0.67 digs and 0.17 aces per set while hitting a robust .640. Marquette's Allie Barber was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, and Butler's Elizabeth LaBue brought home BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Ranked 10th nationally, Creighton (15-3, 8-0 BIG EAST) returns to the court this weekend with 5 p.m. Central matches on both Friday and Saturday at Providence.
