Women's Soccer Closes Season With 1-0 Loss Against Villanova

Bluejays conclude 2019 season at 8-7-3 overall and 2-4-3 in BIG EAST play
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's soccer team closed the 2019 season with a 1-0 loss against Villanova on Thursday, Oct. 31st at Morrison Stadium.
The Bluejays ended the year with an 8-7-3 overall record and 2-4-3 BIG EAST mark, while the Wildcats concluded the regular season at 9-6-3 overall and 5-3-1 in league play.
Villanova converted the game-winning goal during the fourth minute, scoring on the first shot of the match. The Wildcats clinched the fourth seed in the BIG EAST Tournament with the win and will host a match on Sunday.
The Bluejays attempted to find an equalizer and forced three saves by the Villanova goalkeeper during the opening half of play as freshman Skylar Heinrich fired a pair of shots on goal and senior Taryn Jakubowski had one.
During the 31st minute sophomore Ansley Atkinson sent in a free kick from the far sideline into the center of the box where Heinrich headed the ball towards the goal but did not find the back of the net.
With less than 30 seconds remaining in the first half junior Juelle Love launched a shot that hit the left post.
Creighton continued to apply pressure on the Villanova defense during the start of the second half and recorded three shots in the first eight minutes after halftime.
The Bluejays final shot of the night came during the 80th minute.
Creighton held a 12-8 edge in shots, including 5-2 in the second half.
