Powered by 25 Points from Temi Carda, Women's Basketball Bests UNO 67-54

Omaha, Neb. -- Behind a career-high 25 points from junior Temi Carda, the Creighton women's basketball team delivered a 67-54 road win over Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The win moved the Bluejays to 1-0 on the season, while UNO fell to 0-1.
Carda opened the game with a driving layup that turned into a three-point play, then delivered a trey from the right corner as she scored 14 points in the opening quarter to help the Bluejays build a 23-14 edge after the first period.
The Mavericks closed to within five with back-to-back buckets to open the second quarter, but sophomore Payton Brotzki rattled off consecutive layups to push Creighton out to a 27-18 lead (6:33). UNO continued to claw back into the game, closing to 30-23 with 4:30 left. Creighton closed the period on a 10-2 run, keyed by four points from freshman Carly Bachelor to take a 40-25 lead into the locker room.
After halftime the Mavericks put renewed emphasis on getting the ball inside as the Mavericks outscored Creighton 16-11 in the quarter to send the game to the final period with the Bluejays holding a 51-41 edge.
A layup from UNO's Muriah Murdie opened the final period as UNO pulled within eight at 51-43, but that was as close as Creighton allowed its crosstown rival to get, extending the advantage back to 15 at 62-47 (2:59) and closing the contest with a 13-point win.
Carda led Creighton with 25-points, while senior Jaylyn Agnew finished with 14 points, UNO for 12 points from Ella Ogier and 11 from both Elena Pilahouta and Kia Willson in the loss.
The Bluejays return to the hardwood on Tuesday, Nov. 12th as Creighton opens its home schedule against South Dakota State at 7:00 pm in D.J. Sokol Arena.
