About Northern Iowa
Scouting Northern Iowa (5-2)
The Panthers opened the 2019-20 season with five consecutive victories, downing North Dakota State, Wichita State, Missouri, Iowa as well as non-D1 opponent, Northwest Missouri State. However a Thanksgiving trip to Las Vegas was unkind to the Panthers as they dropped contests to Alabama and Ohio State.
Northern Iowa has had eight days since its last contest, playing the Buckeyes on Saturday, Nov. 30. The Panthers are led by reserve Kam Finley with 12.6 ppg, while Karlie Rucker (11.4 ppg) and Megan Maahs (10.4 ppg) are each averaging double-figures as well.
Scouting Creighton (6-2)
Creighton returns home after a tough 72-65 loss at South Dakota on Wednesday that exposed a weakness in the post for the Bluejays. Coyote center Hannah Sjerven racked up 28 points, including 9-of-15 from the field and 10-of-13 from the foul line.
Creighton's hot start has came behind the efforts of the veterans. Four starters are averaging in double-digits with senior Jaylyn Agnew leading the way with 19.0 ppg and 6.7 rpg while playing 38.0 minutes a game.
The Bluejays have turned to their defense early on this season forcing teams into 14.4 turnovers per game and limiting five of eight opponents to 63 points or less. Creighton is 4-1 in those battles.
Taking the Good with the Bad
While Creighton saw its four-game winning streak come to an end in Vermilion against South Dakota, the Bluejays may be better off in the long run. Within the battle with the Coyotes, sophomores Payton Brotzki, Rachael Saunders and freshman Dee Dee Pryor gained confidence as each player had their best game of the young season.
Entering the eighth game of the season with 28 points, Brotzki delivered a career-high 13 on 5-of-10 from the field. In just her third game of the season, Saunders posted eight points and tied a career-high with five rebounds. Pryor, meanwhile, provided a spark in the closing moments with four points and a steal in three minutes on the floor.
