Poor Shooting Night Undoes Women's Hoops in 62-53 Loss at Georgetown

Washington, D.C. -- A rough night from the field saw the Creighton women's basketball team shoot 5-of-27 (19%) in the first half as the Bluejays fell to Georgetown 62-53 on Friday, February 1st.
The loss dropped Creighton to 10-11 on the season and 4-6 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown moved to 10-11 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
The Bluejays took a 3-0 lead as senior Audrey Faber knocked down an Creighton's first shot from beyond the arc. The Bluejays, however, went 1-of-11 the remainder of the period, trailing 12-7 after the first quarter.
Creighton's shooting touch improved but only slightly in the second quarter, hitting three of 15 (20%) from the field, yet the Bluejays trailed just 20-16 with under three minutes remaining. Georgetown closed the half with six straight points to take a 26-16 edge into the locker rooms.
The Hoyas opened the third with a traditional three-point play to push their lead to 29-16. Georgetown extended its edge to as much as 18 (37-19 with 7:39 remaining) and took a 45-30 lead into the final frame.
Down 55-40 with 2:53 remaining in the game, the Bluejays came alive with a 13-2 run to close within four at 57-53 with 32 seconds left, but the comeback was thwarted by the Hoyas. Faber started Creighton's run with a trey, followed by a pair of free throws from junior Olivia Elger. After a Georgetown bucket to make it 57-45, junior Jaylyn Agnew got going withback-to-back layups. The next Bluejay possession saw Agnew go 1-of-2 from the line, but the rebound bounced out to Elger. She was fouled in the act of shooting from beyond the arc. After the Illinois native banged all three it was 57-53.
Elger led Creighton with 17 points off the bench, while Faber closed with 13 points. Georgetown got a game-high 23 points from Dorothy Adomako and 13 from Dionna White.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Sunday, Feb. 3 as the Bluejays face Villanova at 1:00 pm (CT). The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) with Mike Monaco and Sarah Kustok on the call.
