7-footer played in 30 games as a freshman for Creighton
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton center Samson Froling has returned to his native Australia to pursue a professional basketball career, head coach Greg McDermott announced on Monday, April 1.
A 7-footer from Townsville, Australia, Froling averaged 3.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in 30 appearances as a reserve for Creighton during his freshman campaign in 2018-19.
"We appreciate his contributions and respect his desire to play professionally," said head coach Greg McDermott. "We will continue to support him in his future endeavors."
Creighton finished the 2018-19 season with a 20-15 record, advancing to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament while winning 20 or more games for the 19th time in the last 21 seasons.
"I've been given an opportunity to pursue a pro career back home in Australia, and after considering it for a long time I've decided to take up the opportunity," said Froling. "I've loved my time at Creighton and am very grateful to the coaches, my teammates and the fans for making it such a memorable and fun experience, and for showing nothing but support for me and my future. I will continue to support Creighton to the fullest extent and wish them the best of luck for the future."
Despite the loss of Froling and seniors Connor Cashaw and Kaleb Joseph, the Bluejays still are slated to return 88.0 percent of their points, 83.5 percent of their rebounds and 97.7 percent of their starts to the floor in 2019-20.
