
Evan Johnson Signs Free Agent Contract with Seattle Mariners, Makes Debut

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton senior Evan Johnson pushed the number of 2019 Bluejays to seven reaching the professional ranks to seven as Johnson signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Mariners in early June. Johnson made his debut Seattle's short-season single A club, the Everett Aquasox on Monday, tossing three scoreless innings. Johnson gave up just one hit and struck out four on 57 pitches.
Johnson had a breakout 2019 for the Bluejays, going 9-2Â in 17 appearances, including 14 starts. Johnson tossed a combined 77.1 innings, posting an impressive .197 opponents batting average. He allowed 55 hits and 35 runs (28 earned) during 2019, capping the season with an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection. Johnson was at his best in the NCAA Regionals, helping the Bluejays eliminate the defending national champion Oregon State Beavers on their home field with 5.1 innings of one-run ball.
