Men's Basketball Preps For Tour of Australia

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team continues preparation for its upcoming trip to Australia, which begins next Thursday (Aug. 1) and sees the Jays remain on the road until August 13th.

The team will spent the majority of its time in Sydney, Cairns and on the Gold Coast near Brisbane, spending a few days in each location.

The itinerary calls for the team to play three games while on the trip (listed below), including two games against professional teams from Australia's National Basketball League. A list provided to GoCreighton.com of results by American teams on similar tours in the past five years has seen the US teams go 43-23, including 24 games decided by 10 points or less. Games will be played under FIBA rules that feature four 10-minute quarters, a 24-second shot clock and eight seconds to get the ball across half-court, among the major differences.

The group will also have plenty of adventures off the court to enhance and enrich the experience of the student-athletes and staff. Among the planned sightseeing items on the docket are visits to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Olympic Park, Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, Hartley's Crocodile Adventures, Great Barrier Reef, an Australian Rules Football Game, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and SkyPoint Observation Deck.

While away, GoCreighton.com and several of its social media outlets will do its best to make those not on the trip feel like they're along for the ride. After the team arrives on August 3rd, plans call for daily journal and/or video entries on GoCreighton.com/JaysDownUnder, plus regular updates via the men's basketball account on both Twitter (www.twitter.com/BluejayMBB) and Instagram (www.instagram.com/BluejayMBB). Exact links to live stats and any potential live video of the games while in Australia is still being finalized, with updates provided via the team's Twitter account and on the team schedule page on gameday. The hashtag "#JaysDownUnder" will also be utilized on CU's social media platforms.

NCAA rules permit one foreign tour every four years. Creighton's last trip in 2015 saw the team travel to Italy.
